Dr. Monica Covington-Cradle holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Towson University, a Master of Science from the University of the District of Columbia, and a Doctorate of Education in Reading Science from Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She began her career as a K–3 special education teacher in Washington, DC Public Schools before relocating to Brooklyn, NY where she served as a Speech-Language Pathologist and later as a literacy coach. These experiences shaped her deep understanding of language development, struggling readers, and the instructional practices that truly make a difference.
Today, Dr. Covington-Cradle focuses on building educator capacity. She leads a team that partners with school and district leaders, instructional coaches, teachers, and paraprofessionals to strengthen literacy instruction and ensure students develop strong reading and writing skills. While Dr. Cradle has a deep love for elementary literacy, she also specializes in supporting middle and high schools in addressing the needs of older struggling readers. She believes secondary educators play a critical role in closing longstanding literacy gaps through targeted, evidence-aligned approaches embedded within content instruction.

Her professional learning and coaching approach integrates oral language development, structured literacy practices, implementation science, and embedded classroom support—helping schools and districts build sustainable literacy systems that lead to lasting improvement.
